Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police say they were contacted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked cars and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials report early analysis suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the incident," they commented.
Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the public for information.
A high-ranking official stated the attack left him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
